Architect, designer and painter (b. barcelona 1941) is the latest in an illustrious line of figures who have epitomised the indomitable vitality and creativity of modern spain's cultural and intellectual life. He graduate at the escuela técnica superior de arquitectura and set up the associate practice per with lluís clotet, pep bonet and cristian cirici. In 1972 he branched out into design, co-founding b.d. ediciones de diseño for which he began designing classy furniture and objects. In 1987, with architect carlos díaz, he set up the tusquets, díaz & assoc. practice in barcelona with interests ranging from architecture and planning to interior and commercial design. Its work includes a residential complex in fukuoka, japan, public spaces and residential accommodation at the olympic village in barcelona, the new tusquets, díaz & assoc. building in barcelona , and the sant gervasi residential and shopping complex in barcelona. The practice is currently working on projects in the canary islands (parque del mar, under construction; hotel el rincon, las palmas; etc.) and has opened a new office in las palmas. in addition to architecture, he continues to work assiduously as a designer, producing numerous objects and furnishings for spanish and other makers (including alessi, zanotta, cassina and moroso) that have won many awards and are often included in public design collections. his designs for driade include the “victoria” dinner service and a whole collection of furnishings and shelving systems.
