The Split Collection - goes beyond the limits of wood Steam has been used for forming wood in Bystřice pod Hostýnem ever since 1861. A new element, created for the very first time due to the application of manual bending technology, is going to be introduced at this year’s Salone del Mobile Fair. Arik Levy designed the Split Collection for TON, utilising bent massive wood splits-offs as both a design and a functional element at the same time. You can now see this collection in Stand C05, in Hall 12. “From the very beginning, my idea was to take the past and bring it into the future,” said Arik Levy in describing his inspiration. “All the products of this family were born from one idea, the idea of bending. But not the way that is usually used; to give it a new shape instead. In this case, it was by dividing the wood into two parts and bending each of them in a different direction,” added Levy. This element enabled the whole product series to be made. The collection consists of a chair, a barstool, an armchair and a lounge armchair. The base of the chair is formed of manually-bent split-lengths of massive wood that are used to create a support for the seat and the backrest. It is elegantly slid in, behind the seat - also made from massive wood.
