Traditionally, horgenglarus also includes selected tables with cast‐iron feet in its range alongside the solid wood tables and chairs. The Swiss manufactory has been producing the “gloria” table with two striking, decorated, cast‐iron feet versions – the archetype of the classic bistro table – since way back in 1925. Today, “savoy” combines the best of two worlds: it draws on the classic features of bistro tables and reinterprets them in a contemporary, scaled‐down design. The table design was launched in 2012 and is now being completed. In addition to the model with two gently sloping feet made of anthracite‐lacquered cast‐iron, the new smaller versions feature a single cast‐iron leg with four sloping feet: a technical challenge which took over a year to develop and realise in the sand casting process. Generally, all the production steps are performed in the manufactory in Glarus. For product components that cannot be produced internally, horgenglarus cooperates with manufacturers which also preserve traditional manufacturing techniques. For example, the table feet for “savoy” are produced in the Giesserei (foundry) Chur, using the highest quality production method: sand casting. There is a large selection of tabletops to choose from: square or round, made of beech or many other woods, made of solid wood or veneer, varnished, treated with oil and in many versions. “savoy” combines wood and iron in a consistently puristic design. The new design reflects the high requirements on quality and contemporary design for which horgenglarus has stood for over 130 years.
