Presents a new way to hold flowers through its sculptural expression along with an artful character when not in use.
The design features added functionality through its refined dent, allowing flowers to stand upright while also working as a subtle handle when moving the vase from one room to another.
Studio Kaksikko is a Helsinki-based design studio that specializes in ceramic tableware and wooden furniture, founded by Salla Luhtasela and Wesley Walters. The duo shares an interest in functional, understated forms that highlight each material’s tactile qualities, as well as in the production process itself. They met while studying at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and have collaborated on a broad range of professional projects under the studio name Kaksikko.
On Their Design Philosophy
"We consider ourselves “formgivers” before designers, and our process of working with our hands from an early stage has a large influence on the designs that we create. We also produce our own designs by hand in small series, so our familiarity with wood and ceramics lends both an attention to detail and a practicality to our designs that reflects our understanding of these materials. We share a desire to design and make things that people will use until they wear out."
On Scandinavian Design
"Living and studying in Finland, we are always surrounded by the work of some of Scandinavia’s greatest designers from the 20th century; something that certainly has an impact on our own ideas. Something that we find to be very relevant today was the focus of 20th century Scandinavian designs on taking a rational, functionalist approach to designing objects for everyday use that will be relevant for years into the future."
