The Radetzky chair by Michele De Lucchi has a solid beech frame with curved wood elements that integrate the design of the rear legs with the backrest.
A profile strongly characterized by the alternation of rounded and straight lines that with extreme formal synthesis are also found in a plywood seat.
Michele De Lucchi
Born in 1951 in Ferrara, he graduated in architecture in Florence. In the years of radical and experimental architecture he was among the protagonists of movements such as Cavart, Alchimia and Memphis. He has developed lamps and furnishings for the most important Italian industries, such as Artemide, Olivetti, Alias, Unifor.
He has carried out architectural projects in Italy and in the world, including residential, industrial, office and cultural buildings.
He has curated exhibition stands for museums such as the Milan Triennale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Neues Museum in Berlin and the Galleria d'Italia Piazza Scala in Milan.
In Georgia he developed architectures for private and public commissions, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Peace Bridge in Tbilisi.
Many of his projects for the city of Milan are currently under construction, such as the pavilions for Expo 2015 (Zero Pavilion, Expo Center and Intesa Sanpaolo Pavilion), the Unicredit Pavilion in Piazza Gae Aulenti and the museum setting of the Pietà Rondanini in the Hospital Spanish of the Castello Sforzesco.
For the Salone del Mobile 2015 he conceived and designed "La Passeggiata" for Workplace3.0, dedicated to the workplace. In 1990 he created Produzione Privata, a small company where Michele De Lucchi designs products that are made using artisan techniques and crafts. Since 2004 he has been sculpting wooden “houses” with the chainsaw to look for the essentiality of the architectural form. In 2003 the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris acquired a significant number of his works.
A selection of his objects is exhibited in the most important museums of Europe, the United States and Japan. In 2000 he was awarded the title of Officer of the Italian Republic by President Ciampi for merits in the field of design and architecture. In 2001 he was appointed Full Professor by the renowned Faculty of Design and Arts of the University Institute of Architecture in Venice. In 2006 he received the Honorary Degree from Kingston University, for his contribution to the "quality of life". Since 2008 he is Full Professor at the Faculty of Design at the Politecnico di Milano and Academic at the National Academy of San Luca in Rome. In 2009 he received the Golden Fleece Order and in 2010 the Presidential Order of Excellency by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili.
