With a striking modern form the Piani collection offers ambient light and a practical tray base.

A STAGE LIGHT FOR YOUR TRINKETS

“The Piani collection is made up of a flat base and a flat top. The base is either a tray so that objects can be displayed in a triangular beam of light as if they were on stage. Piani comes in plastic as well as in oak wood and basalt stone, so that different sensual experiences are suggested.” R. & E. Bouroullec

Well-known for their clean lines and minimalist designs, with the collection of table lamps Piani, the two French designers demonstrate how formal reduction and simplicity of design can breathe life into objects that are both useful and elegant. The distinctive feature of the series is the overlaying of two flat elements: the upper one providing direct light, while the lower one, shaped like a tray, becomes a convenient receptacle for pens, coins, paper clips, keys and the other little objects that we never know where to put. The lamps become a sort of elegant ‘valet tray’ for desks and entrance halls. Always sensitive to peoples’ daily needs, with Piani the Bouroullec brothers have created a lamp that is both useful and functional.

DESIGNED BY RONAN & ERWAN BOUROULLEC

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have been working together for more than 10 years, bonded by diligence and challenged by their distinct personalities. In 2007, they were spotted by Giulio Cappellini, giving them their first industrial design projects. Since then, they have gone on to work with Established & Sons, Vitra, Magis, Alessi, Axor, Kvadrat, Kartell, Ligne Roset, Nani Marquina, Mattiazzi, Mutina and Flos.

From designing spaces to furniture, taking on architectural projects to designing textile wall systems or comprehensive collections, the designer brothers maintain experimental activity with Gallery kreo which is essential to the development of their work.

Several exhibitions have been devoted to Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and currently, the Centre Pompidou Metz is hosting the exhibition “ Bivouac” (until July 2012) and the Vitra Design Museum is hosting “album” (until May 28th). Theyrecently designed "Cercles", an iPad application showcasing formal studies, freehand drawings and sketches in a very intuitive way.
