Pen-Up is a limited edition Soundwall by Ivan Kiuranov – a 2016 art piece combining image, sound and technology. Pen-Up is sold exclusively on Clippings. It is a 60cm x 97cm aluminium print. It encompasses visual codes from both popular and high culture. The composition is based on the kinetic image of a ballpoint pen which, when turned up and down, presents in turn a picture of a woman first dressed, then naked. These type of images were being smuggled into socialist Bulgaria from the West, in rare ballpoints, holograph pictures, etc. They were highly valued in mass culture and became part of the popular Sofia folklore. Such images functioned as a visual dialect of the highbrow art language, which could then take them up to a new context.
Sound quality: Soundwalls create sound using Distributed Mode Loading (DML) technology. The entire surface of the artwork resonates, generating a very clear, articulate and natural sound. Unlike traditional cone speaker technology, Soundwall fills the room offering a live-event-like experience.
Magic Touch: Soundwall includes an innovative capacitive touch sensor you can use to control the playback. Just touch anywhere on the aluminum surface, on the front or or the side, and your Soundwall will start playing. Touch again to pause, and again to resume. It’s magic!
Subwoofer: Soundwall provides an option to support a connection to a subwoofer for an enhanced bass effect. Soundwall comes with an RCA socket that supplies an audio out capability that plugs directly into a subwoofer using an RCA cable.
