“Mt”, the acronym defining this collection designed by Ron Arad, in english is pronounced “empty” that means “vacuum” and emptiness is really the key element of this project.

The volume is hollowed and presents provoctively its interior, finished in different colours. This is possible thanks to a double step in the rotational molding. First of all the polyethylene of the outer shell color is placed in the mold. Once formed this layer, the second color is inserted and adhere to the first without merging the two polymers, even though this process takes place in blast furnaces. Once extracted from the mold, a five-axis laser will cut off the lateral ends of the product, revealing the two-tone side of the mt. From the typological point of view is also reported the presence of a rocking chair, a rarity in the contemporary world.

Ron Arad

Ron Arad was born in 1951 in tel aviv into an artistic family. he attended the accademy of art in jerusalem until the early 1970s. settling in london in 1974, he enrolled at the architectural association, where he studied under peter cool and bernard tschumi with classmates like nigel coates, peter wilson and zaka hadid. he quickly developed artistic and cultural interests outside architecture, and his work became increasingly oriented towards design and non-rhetorical artistic uses of materials. in 1981, with dennis groves and caroline thorman, he set up one off, the design agency that made its successful debut with a set of tubular steel furniture. as a sculptor and craftsman who has taught himself to cut sheet steel, he has produced furniture that is emotional and sensual as well as aggressively light and pratical. a similar philosophy is evident in his designs for the futuristic foyer of the opera house in tel aviv (1989-1994), the instalaltions for “l’esprit du nomade”, fondation cartier in paris (1994), the impressive project of adidas stadium in paris (1995-1996), the domus totem for the triennale in milan (1997), the exclusive yohji yamamoto’s store in tokyo (2003), the design museum in holon, israel (2004). he collaborates with the main important italian design companies such as alessi, artemide, bonaldo, cappellini, cassina, driade, fiam, kartell, magis, moroso.

driade is an aesthetic lab in continuous search for beauty in living space.
