The project is inspired by the 12th century Byzantine iconography, where the general Giorgio Maniace isscolding a soldier known as “il Calafato”.
The relationship between these two soldiers of the domination in Sicily has a significant historical value, and
it is precisely for this reason that the two coffee tables were named in homage to the great and powerful
Maniace and the tall and slight Calafato.
A barely hidden game of clashes and conflicts of converging opposites as they possess the same nature: the
result gives birth to two simple, but elegant and precious coffee tables thanks to the skilled use of decorative
marble and gemstone grafting which sets them apart. The metal frame intentionally also becomes a gold
decoration, imitating byzantine art.
