Michael Verheyden is a Belgian designer (b. 1978) with a worldwide reputation. He combines respect for local traditions and expert workmanship with elemental forms. His designs are a celebration of sublime craftsmanship and rich, natural materials, such as wood, marble, leather and bronze. The combination of the archetypical, architectural geometries with warm materials impart a certain spiritual power.
He is inspired by the long-standing tradition of Flemish design and craftsmanship and the peace and quiet and natural surroundings of the region where he was born, near Genk (BE), where he still lives and works today. At the same time, his passion for fashion, art and the energy of large metropolises also influence his work.
Michael Verheyden won the Henry Van de Velde award for talented young designers and received the Wallpaper design award three times. The latter magazine also included him in its 2016 Wallpaper Powerlist of the world’s most influential designers.
