Skagerak’s new outdoor collection is developed together with the renowned architect company BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.
BIG is a Copenhagen, New York and London based group of architects, designers, urbanists, landscape professionals, interior and product designers, researchers and inventors. The office is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. For the outdoor collection they were inspired by the waterfronts and industrial heritage of the city Aalborg while also referencing the casual interactions of social gatherings in public spaces. The collection is defined by combining the teak plank elements and the stainless steel, culminating with the “x” detail at the base. The wood slats sit elegantly on top of the frame, hiding all hardware connections while creating the illusion that they are floating in place. Where needed, the teak is elegantly curved and shaped to provide extra comfort. The proportions of the lounge chair are slightly widened, adding flexibility to the way it is used. The extra space is a perfect resting spot for a book or cup of coffee. The furniture has been designed to either be combined as a set or function as standalone.
