Born from the idea of wood - TON presents its new Leaf Collection A return to natural materials, concepts and shapes. The TON Company will introduce its new Leaf Collection, designed for it by the Florence-based Studio E-ggs, at the Salone del Mobile 2016 Trade Fair in Italy. The chairs and the barstools (available in two height variants) - as well as a table, can be viewed at Booth B03 C04 in Hall 12 from April 12th to 17th, 2016. "The collection reflects our vision of trees - a solid foundation topped with delicate leaves. These ideas were first adapted in the form of a chair, consisting of a supporting structure made of solid wood and a seat with a backrest of optically lightweight, molded plywood," said Gaia Giotti when introducing the E-ggs designer duo´s collection concept. "Apart from the characteristic properties of trees themselves, we were also inspired by their shapes. Specifically, the leaves - whose motive can be found in the cross-section of the backrest," she added. The concept development has been worked on ever since 2013. "Apart from the high-quality design process, the ergonomics were also tested for a long time. Now, we are sure that the shape is bent in such a way that even prolonged sitting is very comfortable," said TON´s Marketing Director, Jan Juza. Thanks to its properties, the Leaf Collection complements a wide spectrum of seating areas. "We love products with multifunctional uses; and wood also helps in this process. The feeling of warmth and coziness which it evokes in us, is something that we like to enjoy not only at home but also in public areas, like restaurants and cafes," said Gaia. For such places, the collection includes chairs as well as barstools offered in two height variants. The seats are identical to the shapes of the chairs; but this time, used in the opposite position. The rear legs are formed by complicated manual bending. "We visited Bystřice pod Hostýnem, where the whole chair came into being during the design process, several times. We were intrigued when we saw the process - which we had learned about during our school years – the manual bending of solid wood," Gaia confided. "The central theme of the set is the chairs. However, even the table - with its visual effect of a floating slab is – without question, an interesting element," added the designers. They are interconnected with the chairs through the curved detail on the upper leg endings. "Apart from the collection however, other types of chairs and seats will certainly complement the set," said Juza. It is available in two shape versions - rectangular and circular tabletops.
