The fixture emits a primarily downward illumination.
The perforated pattern on the shade provides a soft illumination around the fixture. Meanwhile, the perforation helps to lighten up the surface of the shade in a decorative way, when it is turned on, thereby maintaining the contour of the fixture, whether it is on or off. The light source is surrounded by an opal diffuser, which ensures that the fixture is 100% glare-free, and that the fixture is suitable for several types of light sources providing the same light distribution and comfort. And finally, the shape of the diffuser allows a beautiful view into the fixture.

New bright ideas from Louise Campbell
Louis Poulsen has teamed up again with Danish/English designer Louise Campbell to produce a fourth lighting fixture. Like the others, this one also reflects innovative thinking.
No one can accuse Louise Campbell of repeating herself. Her creative side develops in step with the challenges she takes on, and this time she challenged both herself and Louis Poulsen.
It is said that simplicity is difficult, and that has certainly been the case here.
Louis Poulsen excels at developing and producing very precise, identical metal shades. These skills hail from the days of Poul Henningsen, and the ongoing production of his lights keeps them sharp as a daily discipline at our factory in Vejen, Denmark.
Louise Campbell's idea with the new lighting fixture was to create a fixture with a minimum of processes, based on a single shade. The process has literally been cut down to three basic elements: turning the shade, stamping the pattern, and painting.
All Louise Campbell’s lighting fixture have multiple layers, and this one is no exception. However, the extra layer is created by the same shade, and this was the crux of the challenge. A completely new tool was necessary. A tool which can stamp with millimetre precision, on a curved surface.
So now it has arrived. The name is LC Shutters, creating associations with the atmospheric light impressions you encounter when you stroll through a Southern European town in the evening. The shutters are either fully or partially closed, permitting numerous strips of light to escape and create a decorative façade. More private and intimate than the very open windows of Northern Europe.
Louise Campbell has this to say about her new light: "I aimed to draw attention to the balance between glare reduction and spreading the light in the room. The shade and diffuser are integrated. A single unit with a clear function – protecting against glare, creating atmosphere, but also diligently spreading the light. Despite the dense, hard material, the design expression is soft and friendly."
LC Shutters is very harmonious light. It is available in two versions – a completely white edition, and one with a pattern of various colours which helps create a completely different expression, whether the light is on or off.
LC Shutters not only protects against glare, it is 100% glare-free, and the light source is protected by a diffuser which shields direct viewing and also prevents it from being touched. The diffuser can be easily removed and cleaned – yet another factor which makes the light very maintenance friendly, both in the home and the workplace.
LC Shutters is a light which can be used in a wide range of settings. At first glance, many want to put it above their dining table at home. A logical choice, but the light has an amazing ability to blend into its surroundings in a natural way. Louis Poulsen often tests lighting fixture in various settings in connection with new launches, and LC Shutters demonstrated a remarkable ability to add a decorative and tasteful softness to its surroundings, helping to make rooms more human and communicative. LC Shutters produces honest lighting. A soft and diffuse light which provides ideal illumination for faces, without distracting shadows. It is therefore very suited for meeting rooms, where one wants to give communication the best possible conditions.
Louise Campbell
Louise Campbell was born in Copenhagen in 1970. Being the daughter of a Danish father and an English mother, she grew up and was educated in both countries. After graduating from the London College of Furniture in 1992, she returned to Denmark and continued her studies in Industrial Design at Denmark's Design School, graduating from here in 1995. She set up her own studio in 1996, from where she has worked independently since. Her main focus is on furniture and lighting design, but the studio is increasingly involved in product and interior design projects as well.
Louise Campbell’s work is playful and experimental, and is increasingly gaining a reputation for gently twisting not only every day objects and situations, but also materials and manufacturing processes in new directions. The combination of Scandinavian rationalism and femininity, and perhaps her dual nationality, give the works of Louise Campbell an unusual edge. Illustrating contrasts seem to be an issue that keeps returning in her work.
The studio is also known for its interest in less commercial activities. Apart from being the curator and designer of exhibitions, Louise Campbell has taken part in numerous activities aiming at improving the design environment in Denmark. Among these initiatives is ‘Walk the Plank’, a collaboration lasting seven years between 30 furniture designers and 60 cabinet makers, all of whom donated their time and original design for a truly fine cause.
There are a few ground rules the studio aims to abide by: Always start from scratch. Everything is possible until the opposite has been proven. There must be a good reason for every single decision made.
Among different awards achieved by Louise Campbell, she won the IF Product Design Award in gold for “Campbell Pendant” in 2005, which she designed specifically for Louis Poulsen.
