Clients have asked us to utilize wood in our designs for years.
Lancaster features a re-claimed, solid ash frame and recycled die-cast aluminum seat and back- an expression of industrial technique and warm materials.
Designer Michael Young contacted Gregg from his studio in Hong Kong to initiate the back-and-forth design that resulted in Emeco’s first component-based chair. Emeco found a local Amish woodworker in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to make the ash wood legs which are combined with die-cast aluminum seats and backs at the Emeco factory in Hanover, PA.
"The sculptural form of this chair leg could only be made in wood. When I found that Emeco has partnered with a remarkable amish wood factory in Lancaster, the project gelled. It is an immense privilege to work with Emeco, I am sincerely proud in a way I have not felt previously. I feel passionate about working with natural materials that live forever; wood and metal are really the materials that connect to the human so there was no question that the richness of their aging processes is a perfect combination." - Michael Young
