Naoto Fukasawa

Born in yamanashi prefecture, japan, in 1956. graduated from tama art university’s product design department in 1980. after having worked at ideo in the u.s.a. for 8 years, fukasawa became the director of ideo tokyo office. in 2003, he established his own studio ‘naoto fukasawa design’. he has been organizing a series of workshops and exhibitions under the name of ‘without thought’ with various corporate in-house designers and related publications are produced subsequently. his acclaimed cd player born out of the workshop was introduced to the market by muji and won both the 2002 german if gold award and the british d&ad award. at the invitation of the museum of modern art in new york, he exhibited his work ‘personal skies’ in their ‘workspheres’ exhibition. he has also won a number of awards such as the prestigious japanese ‘mainichi design award’ in april, 2003.in september of the same year, he has founded a new brand ‘±0’ introducing his design of the electrical appliances and interior accessories. in october, his kddi/au mobile telephone ‘infobar’ was launched and gained immediate success. member of the muji advisory board for quality design.
