The Hoof Tall lampshade is printed in dark blue on 100% Belgian flax linen. It comes with a standard fitting for use on either a pendant or a table lamp base.
Thorody's all-over designs are known for their use of thin hand drawn lines to render geometric shapes. Their designs reflect a love of modernism infused with a hint of 21st century South East London. Thorody love pattern, repetition, geometrical visual playfulness and repetition. Resolutely analogue in their approach, they embrace formalism, avantgarde jazz and other abstract notions. Their unique style distils elements of the city and is best described as rustic modernism.
Thorody Material and Manufacturing
Thorody use very high quality linen sourced from the UK and Belgium for their products. Some companies fudge the environmental issue, claiming their fabric to be sourced locally when in fact they are using a cheaper linen, produced in a less environmentally friendly way and imported into the UK or Europe from the far east. Flax is no longer grown commercially in the UK but the weaving mills are still here and the best linen in the world is produced in Northern France and Belgium. Some of Thorody's linen is woven in Lancashire, UK using European flax and the flax for their Belgian linen is grown within 20 miles of the mill where it is woven, and it is produced in an environmentally responsible way. Thorody do not pay lip service to these issues, they try really hard the walk the walk too. Thorody produce all-over repeat designs, which are printed by hand in length. This is both a more technically difficult and expensive print to produce than a placement print. Vicky and Theo print by hand using water based pigments.
