The ladder Heaven is designed as only one part of a two-parted ladder, where the base forms the overall support.

The cone shape makes it look like it is reaching for the sky.

Thomas Bernstrand

Ingeniously solved problems. Thomas Bernstrand’s designs are based on an idea that is so obvious and strong that the design seems to find itself. He aimsto create everyday products that say something about our lives in a personal and charming way. Like the bookshelf Ivy for Swedese, a type of puzzle that eliminates the need for bookends because of the way it leans.

Thomas Bernstrand was born in Bromma outside Stockholm in 1965 and trained at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, and at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen. He has run his own studio Bernstrand & Co since 1999 specialising mainly in furniture design, and also ornamentation of public outdoor environments.

Bernstrand has won several awards, including the prestigious Bruno Mathsson prize, the DIM Design Award in Valencia and the Swedish Association of Architects’ Siena prize. The bookshelf Ivy won the Form +1 Award, the magazine Form’s prize for the best new product in 2011.

Swedese's ideals are the same today as they have been for the past seventy years. These are to create beautiful furniture for the future, which build on the foundations of Scandinavian modern traditions, designed by forward-looking designers who share in the timeless ideals of architecture.
