Flame’s curving form spirals into intriguing shapes that resemble pieces of jewellery more than lighting designs.

Crafted in plated steel and tinted in shades of gold and metallic rose, Flame bridges the divide between understated beauty and everyday functionality. Flame’s distinctive shape was inspired by the flickering movement of a candle flame, which the designers captured in an elegant design.

Made in steel, the shade surrounds a black cast iron base designed to hold a single candle or a tea light. The opening on the side provides easy access to the wick, enabling the candle or tea light to be lit securely. Each design can be used individually, or several combined to form a cluster of light. With two versions to choose from, Flame is certain to spark a cosy atmosphere in any environment.

Gridy

Design studio Gridy was established by two product designers, Wilhelm Grieg Teisner and Lars Olav Dybdal. Both studied at the Bergen Academy of Arts and Design. They created the name ‘Gridy’ by combining their surnames – Grieg and Dybdal.

Now based in Oslo, Gridy create functional designs with a strong sense of individuality, which are often underpinned by an element of wit. In 2011, Gridys’s Spiff lighting design was selected as one of six ‘must see’ lamps exhibited at London’s 100% Design trade fair.

The following year, the duo won the Stelton Meets Corian design competition with their Trix candlestick concept. The award-winning Spiff table lamp was added to our collection in 2012, making Flame Gridy’s second design for Northern Lighting.

We create furniture, lighting and accessories that are Nordic in spirit, yet global in style.
