Enzo Mari

Born in novara in 1932, enzo mari's work takes different artistic directions, having in common his reflections on the meaning of form and design. his creative activity, after a preliminary research into visual perception, has been dedicated to the creation of children's toys, graphic art, design and architecture. he has held many training courses, including those at the visual communication study centre at the university of parma, the fine arts academy at carrara, the faculty of architecture at milan polytechnic and at isia in florence. recently, he gave lectures and held conferences at the berlin college of art (hochschule der kunste) and the vienna college for applied arts (hochschule fűr angewandte kunst). in 2002, the faculty of architecture at milan polytechnic conferred on him an honorary degree in industrial design. he is also a member of the “communication archives and study centre” in parma. his work is on display at the venice biennale, the charlottenburg castle in berlin, at the m.i.c. in faenza, the national gallery of modern art in rome, moma in new york and at the milan triennale. in recognition of his work, he has received many prizes, including 4 golden compasses. among the most recent publications dedicated to his work are: “why a book on enzo mari”by françois burkhardt and francesca picchi; “enzo mari - work at the centre” by antonio d’avossa and francesca picchi; and “enzo mari: between the art of design and applied art" and published by the national ceramics museum of faenza.
