Marina Bautier

Beauty based on natural materials. Belgian Marina Bautier creates multifunctional furniture and objects without hampering the design. She gives priority to simple structures and carefully considers appearance and implementation. Shying away from technological rhetoric, Marina Bautier emphasises the beauty and the modernity of familiar materials, especially of wood. One example is the seemingly simple yet stylish easy chair Cruiser for Swedese, often lauded in the international design press.

Born in Brussels in 1980, the designer graduated from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and set up her design practice in 2002. She has since gone on to refine her own design language, and has produced work for manu-facturers including Idée, De La Espada, Ligne Roset, Case and Swedese.

In 2007 Elle Decoration UK considered Marina Bautier one of “the names we’re watching”. She has also been prized for “Best use of material: wood” by Wallpaper Magazine.

Swedese's ideals are the same today as they have been for the past seventy years. These are to create beautiful furniture for the future, which build on the foundations of Scandinavian modern traditions, designed by forward-looking designers who share in the timeless ideals of architecture.
