Constance is the composed promise of future purity and happiness… this is the first Zollanvari Studio design for the Traces Collection. The concept behind this creation emerged from many sources - from Aborigine art to modern minimalist paintings and sculpture by way of Chinese and Japanese ink paintings and sumi brush strokes. The mood is a return to the primal which also resonates in abstract Persian Gabbehs. The simplicity of this collection using undyed wool in natural colours marries archaic art and the contemporary desire for sobriety and purity.
The ‘Isfahan Collection’ was originally created in collaboration with the Milan-based company SoFar SoNear (www.sofarsonear.com) and further developed subsequently. The weaving techniques, the choice of the subjects to be woven, and the dyes used, all have deep roots in the Persian weaving heritage. The rediscovery of and deference to these elements are at the heart of the Isfahan Collection. SoFar SoNear’s goal was not just to design a modern pattern that was reminiscent of classical carpet designs. Rather the challenge was to transport traditional motifs into the contemporary design world and to add a palette of modern shades while maintaining the intrinsic quality and character of the Persian carpet.
