The self-contained design of the AKIRA bureau makes it a special statement piece and turns a place to write into a cosy retreat.
The desktop can be extended for use via a push-to-open mechanism. Beneath it, a full-width storage compartment offers perfect storage for laptops and notebooks, with a front flap that is opened via the grip recesses on the sides. On the far side of the desktop is a further compartment for keeping pens and other office utensils. This is half-covered by a sliding lid that offers easy access to the contents and which, along with the fixed shelf on the left, provides a handy place to showcase collectibles, lucky charms and the like. The fixed shelf conceals two electrical sockets.
Mathias Hahn
Durability and the right combination of materials and workmanship are particularly important aspects of the work of Mathias Hahn. After graduating in Industrial Design in Germany, Mathias Hahn moved to London, where he continued his studies under Ron Arad at the Royal College of Art, earning a Masters in Design Products. In 2006 he set up his own London studio, where he mainly designs products, furniture and interiors. He works on various projects for renowned businesses, institutions and museums. His designs are regularly showcased internationally and have earned him several awards. Mathias Hahn is also a guest lecturer at the University of the Arts in Berlin. For Schönbuch he has created AKIRA, a bureau that’s far more than just a desk.
