The fixture emits soft comfortable downlight.
The conical shape and the matt, while-painted inside help assure even distribution of the light. The opening in the top of the fixture provides decorative illumination of the arch above, and ensures that the fixture retains the full expression of its visual shape both when illuminated and when switched off.

Above Simplicity - Louis Poulsen Introduces New Pendant by Mads Odgård
With the introduction of Above, a new pendant by Danish designer Mads Odgård, Louis Poulsen showcases an overtly simplistic lighting design. The Above pendant features a graphic triangle with an arch-shaped opening at the top, revealing the simple cord, creating a downward light and a discreet upward light, resulting in a subdued and pleasant ambience. The beautiful detail of the open top, to which its name refers, conceals the light source to provide the pendant with an ingenious and functional aspect.
“I have designed a lamp that embodies my mantra: how simple do you dare to design? I would rather remove than add and I always encourage myself to go as simple as possible, “says Mads Odgård.
Odgård’s approach begins with the function of the design – a drawing of a room, working with simple graphic silhouettes. He manipulates the shape into an aesthetic design. Odgård is a minimalist to the core and creates understandable products, where function is valued to the same degree as form and quality.
“Following Louis Poulsen’s belief that design should shape light, Odgård has taken his knowledge of outdoor lighting and natural ambience inside – and designed a lamp that illuminates a room without dominating. He has considered how the light would interact with and improve its surroundings,” says Idea & Design Director Rasmus Markholt from Louis Poulsen.
Above is manufactured in Denmark and crafted in aluminium with a matt, painted finish. The pendant is available in four sizes and two colours, serving both the home and the hospitality sector.
The Above pendant will be presented at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2017 and will be available in stores from February 2017.

About Louis Poulsen
Louis Poulsen is a Danish lighting manufacturer, founded in 1874. Through close cooperation with designers and architects like Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Vilhelm Lauritzen, Øivind Slaatto, nendo (Oki Sato), Shoichi Uchiyama, Louise Campbell and Mads Odgård, Louis Poulsen has established itself as one of the key suppliers of architectural lighting in the world market. The company offers a range of lighting targeting both the professional and home lighting markets. There is a story behind every Louis Poulsen product. These are products whose designers focus on light itself and the idea behind the product as well as on the refinement of an architect’s, light designer’s or furnishing designer’s ideas and visions about light – all in harmony with Louis Poulsen’s own philosophy, design to shape light.
Shoichi Uchiyama was born and bred in Tokyo. Since the foundation of Shoichi Uchiyama Design Office in 1977, he has been committed to creation of lighting fixtures with glare-free indirect light that make objects beautiful, and allow people to feel the texture and depth of objects. He seeks quality lighting through the design of lighting fixtures, and devotes himself to realize the beautiful effect of indirect light in space.
As a basic concept, Uchiyama tries to create the ideal light distribution and the elimination of uncomfortable glare by controlling of light, through thorough understanding of light source characteristics. He believes that the verification process for lighting effect in particular is essential to pursue high-quality lighting. By preparing for the fixture's full scale mock-ups with actual light source, he examines the intensity and color of light, the shadows casting on the objects, as well as the fixture's aesthetic appearance. Such strict design process leads to the creation of simple and functional form, and it finally gives his products a minimalistic beauty of Japanese tradition.
Uchiyama's lighting fixtures, which are created through an accurate calculation of light, are the proof of his design philosophy. He has won the iF Award in Germany and the Good Design Award in Japan for designs created by his unique talent.
