Wiry metal frame lifts upholstered chair

A wiry steel base like an upside-down basket lifts this upholstered armchair away from the ground in one of the latest creations from New Zealand design studio Tim Webber.

The Otto chair has a narrow, rounded section underneath that slots into the top of the hand-welded steel base, creating space beneath the upholstered chair with a light and airy structure. The moulded foam seat has a high back that rolls down into armrests and the seat is topped with a slender cushion as well.

The frame comes in various powder-coated colour options and you can upholster the chair in Alpaca Velvet or Merit fabric produced by American textile brand Maharam.
