Tiipoi - Siment vases

Urban India inspires concrete planters

Accessories brand Tiipoi has launched a collection of concrete planters and vases inspired by India’s obsolete water towers and brutalist metro flyovers.

Launched during London Design Festival, the Siment collection includes three planters and two vases. They’re covered in mini architectural features like piping, ladders and stairs that work as playful, decorative elements across the raw concrete.

Tiipoi founder and creative director Spandana Gopal worked closely with manufacturers in Mumbai to create 3D printed versions of the vessels. They used these to make silicone moulds and then cast them in concrete. Each piece is poured by hand on a vibrating table to get the concrete to flow into every corner of the mould.

Based between London and Bangalore, Spandana is fascinated by the way the massive structures get absorbed into their environment, as nature grows over them and people use them as canvases for artistic and political expression.
