Poltrona Frau - Cestlavie side tables

Wicker hampers inspire leather tables

GamFratesi has designed a series of woven leather side tables inspired by wicker baskets for Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau.

The Danish-Italian duo wove strips of leather round a hollow aluminium frame to create a table with storage inside. The top is made from two semi-circular panels of upholstered MDF that are joined at a hinge down the centre so you can open up each half of the table like a hamper.

The leather weave uses strips in two widths; narrow ones run horizontally across wider ones to exaggerate the rotund shape of the basket. The strips are stitched and attached by hand to a saddle leather disk at the bottom of the basket.

Called Cestlavie, the table comes in two sizes: one with a wide basket that sits low to the ground, and the other with a smaller body and longer legs. The aluminium frame and legs are available in burnished or galvanised gunmetal grey.
