Hartô - Eustache bench
Harto makes bench with off-centre backrest
Paris brand Harto has made an upholstered oak bench with an off-centre backrest and will show the piece at Maison et Objet this week.
Created by French designer Margaux Keller, the rectangular backrest is positioned to one side of the bench and has a softly rounded outline that echoes the shape of the seat. Both the backrest and the seat are padded on one side with a slender upholstered cushion so you can see the warm oak body around the edges, which complements the soft fabric.
There's a refined brass basket hanging underneath the seat that’s as long as the bench and curls up at each end. Margaux designed the wooden legs with rounded outer edges and flat inner edges that slice off into feet at the bottom, intended to evoke a ballerina’s pointed toe.
Margaux designs both products and interiors spaces, creating shop spaces for the likes of furniture brand Roche Bobois and the Swim outdoor furniture collection for French brand Bibelo.
