Gebrüder Thonet Vienna - Caryllon Tables

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna makes straw marquetry-inspired table

Italian designer Cristina Celestino created tables with surfaces inspired by straw marquetry for Austrian brand Gebrüder Thonet Vienna.

The series features table tops inlaid with different species of wood, and the overall look is similar to the elegant surfaces of 1930s straw marquetry musical jewellery boxes. The triangular sections of wood alternate in soothing shades of the same colour, with the woodgrain bringing out darker and lighter tones.

Called Caryllon, the collection includes a rectangular dining table as well as coffee tables in two heights and sizes with a clover-shaped surface outlined in the same wood finish as the frame.

Cristina Celestino made her debut at the Salone Satellite exhibition for young designers in 2012. The Caryllon series is in keeping with her usual 1930s art deco style, after her arch-shaped mirror for FENDI in 2016 as well as the Visiera sofa with varnished brass, which she designed for Nilufar in 2017.
