fermLIVING - Insert side table

Table top floats above base

Danish brand fermLIVING teamed up with Chinese designer Mario Tsai to create a side table that slots slabs of wood together in alternating planes to lift the surface up above its chunky base.

The flat piece in the middle has a rounded bottom edge that slots halfway into one side of the large cylindrical base. The oval surface rests on top of the middle piece, and is positioned centrally over the base to rebalance the composition.

It’s made of solid ash and comes in either a natural or stained black finish to show off the wide wood grain. The table was presented alongside the brand's new Rest table lamp in Paris last week.

This graphic arrangement of rounded block shapes is reminiscent of the steadily building trend for totemic stacks of components that we identified at our trend briefing event last autumn.
