Ercol - VON Collection

Ercol makes Windsor-inspired modular timber furniture for Milan

British brand Ercol’s Milan launches bring traditional Windsor designs into the modern world of coworking spaces with a modular collection of timber-framed furniture.

Designed for open plan interiors, the VON collection includes different tables and chairs that are all the same height so you can arrange them alongside each other in any configuration. They have tapered timber legs like those of original Windsor designs, and the chairs have an intricate frame of wooden rods running between the legs, across the underside of each seat and up the back. The chairs are upholstered and have a gently reclining back.

You can choose between versions with or without arms, and there’s also a work-chair option with a small flat surface at table height on one side. There’s a magazine table with rounded corners and wooden slats underneath, and the bench table has an upholstered foam pad at one end so you can use it as both a seat and a table.

Designer Hlynur Atlason of Atlason Studio, originally from Iceland, based the collection on a chair from Ercol’s archives, the 427 lounge chair designed by brand founder Lucian Ercolani in 1956. Hlynur borrowed the timber frame and reclined back from the original Ercol design, and built on it to accommodate modern furniture uses.
