deadgood - Scafell Cave

deadgood makes cave-like seating module

British brand deadgood has added a high-walled private seating module to its Scafell collection of modular furniture.

The rounded seat cushion and backrest are enclosed by walls on the back and one side, and you’ve got the option of leaving the other side open to combine it with another module. The walls come in two different heights and are each made of two segments; one rectangular piece at the same height as the seat, and another on top of that, which mimics the top line of the seat’s backrest with rounded corners.

The module has an integrated shelf and light, and it stands on little slender metal feet. There’s also a subtle smiling stitch detail running along the edge of seat just behind your knee as you sit. The sofa system was named Scafell because its rounded forms reminded the team of the distinctive ridge of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, which they scaled on a team trip.

Irish designer David Irwin created the collection, which was on show at the brand’s newly opened first UK showroom during Clerkenwell Design Week. David and deadgood are long time collaborators, having also worked together on the brand’s popular Working Girl seating collection.
