Cassina - Taliesin chair

Cassina relaunches Frank Lloyd Wright armchair

Italian furniture brand Cassina has re-launched the Taliesin 1 armchair designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1949, with new limited edition colours and subtle structural changes.

Often called the Origami chair, it’s made of plywood folded like an origami structure with another flat piece slotted in from the front to make the seat. The original chair had front feet which Cassina has removed to simplify the lines of the chair’s architectural body. They’ve also reclined the backrest a little further and increased the thickness of the padding on the upholstered back and sides.

The new version also comes in three limited edition colours - burgundy, petrol blue or green - with the short hair leather upholstery in the same colour as the lacquered plywood.

The armchair was originally designed for what was Frank Lloyd Wright’s home studio in Arizona, now the headquarters of the esteemed architect’s foundation. Cassina first produced the chair thirty years ago and worked closely with the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation to restructure the design this year.
