Wornington Green, W10
- Designed by: PRP Architects
Client: Catalyst Housing Limited
Portobello Road is world famous for its busy street market but its success does not extend to its northern end, where the buzz fizzles out. The historic connection between Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove was severed when the Wornington Green Estate was built during the 1960s and 70s, contributing to the decline of commercial uses at the northern end and the disconnection of the estate from its surrounding context. The key design objectives for the redevelopment of the Estate are to reintegrate the site with its immediate neighbourhood, to re-provide a poorly-located public open space as a ‘Green Flag’ park at the heart of the development and to provide new, well designed,
high quality, mixed-tenure housing employing a range of different typologies drawn from traditional Kensington residential precedents.
