The Factory Community Centre
- Designed by: Cazenove Architects
- Category: Commercial design
- Location: London, United Kingdom
Cazenove has created a striking new entrance and identity for the Factory Community Centre in Islington. Commissioned to provide facilities for disabled access, the architects analysed the circulation and access problems of the building and designed a holistic solution that integrated the once fragmented series of entrances, ramps and staircases. The raised entrance level is now fully wheelchair accessible and the new entrance canopy and strong vertical shape of the lift shaft form a welcoming and notable local landmark. Civic Trust Commendation 2002 The building has been further adapted to become the Factory Children's Centre with a further two phases of work completing in 2008. A new staircase tower provides access to all floors and the reconfiguration allows full facilities for a nursery, training, community uses and ancillary offices. The Centre is delighted with the improved accommodation and fresh and invigorating environment.
