The main landmarks on the Grotekerkplein are the Gothic Sint Laurenskerk, the statue of Erasmus and the Delfsevaart canal. Currently the square has a rather unattractive and run-down look due to the fact that most buildings surrounding the square don't face it. To stimulate activities and emphasise the spatial qualities of the square a podiurn for open air festivals will be erected. The podium is designed as a window towards the city. The structure's horizontal character offers a counterpart to the church tower, reinforces the edge of the square and underlines the transition between the square and the canal. The podium can be used for different purposes but also has a spatial function without being used.
