LONDON UNDERGROUND - Camden Town Station
- Designed by: Jestico + Whiles
- Category: Commercial design
- Location: London, United Kingdom
Jestico + Whiles’ scheme for Camden Town underground station will form a key component of this overhaul, as the existing station is dilapidated and inadequate for the quantity of passengers it processes. Its replacement will provide a new urban focus and transport interchange, combining an improved underground facility with commercial and community amenities and housing. An elliptical atrium will form a new passenger concourse between platforms, creating a dramatic, spacious circulation zone around the central escalators. Intermediate levels will accommodate staff offices, overlooking the atrium to enhance safety and security. Commercial offices will be built above the station, while a housing scheme, including 50% affordable provision, will occupy a separate block. A new pedestrian street will intersect the site, connecting it with a surrounding network of rail, bus, tram, taxi and cycle routes. The street will become a vibrant public place for people rather than vehicles.
