Library Street Affordable Housing, SE1
- Designed by: Metaphorm Architects
- Category: Commercial design
- Location:
Client: London & Quadrant/Southwark Council
The competition-winning Library Street project is part of Southwark Council’s Elephant & Castle Housing programme, providing 40 affordable housing units, including six 4-bedroom town houses. Through perimeter development, architect Metaphorm created a green square by linking new and existing buildings, and by incorporating a community garden. The apartments feature generous loggias, terraces, balconies, or wintergardens. A landscaped roof garden with panoramic views over London also features trees, flowers and a pergola for festivities. The facades are structured by white pre-cast concrete elements and subtly protruding and receding, storey-high slim-line brick panels in one of five colours, arranged in random bond.
