‘Leyton Links’ is an ambitious project in Waltham Forest aimed at improving an extensive area within the context of a clear strategy for social and physical improvement, and forging improved linkages to the Olympic site. A series of special spatial ‘moments’ along the High Road were identified, with a focus on strengthening pedestrian and cycle connections around the edges. Proposals provide visual impact, improved orientation and access, with new trees and lighting, seating, special signage, and wayfinding with high quality materials of a simple palette. Elsewhere, ‘sensible’ measures were applied, including rationalising street furniture, upgrading kerbs and footway surfaces.
